‘No ability for state defence ministry to impose ban’

The state ministry of defence has no ability to say that a ban had been imposed on the eastern province chief minister from entering military camps, says cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne.

That should have come as a policy of the state, he told Neth FM this morning (02).

The ministry-imposed ban was removed following talks between the president and the prime minister, said Senaratne.

State defence minister Ruwan Wijewardena has earlier said that he would not at all approve of the CM’s having placed a Navy commanding officer into inconvenience.

Wijewardena said in a statement that he would appear on behalf of the dignity of the war heroes who had come forward to sacrifice their lives in order to end terrorism and that no one would be allowed to harm that dignity.
