The issue had been raised during the Cabinet meeting earlier this week.

The Prime minister's office too, had probed into the issue and had learnt that Cabinet minister of Defence - President Maithripala Sirisena had vested State Defence minister Ruwan Wijewardena with certain powers of the ministry while Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has vested State minister Niroshan Perera with certain powers of the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs.

Apart from the President and Prime minister, the only Cabinet minister who had vested a portion of ministry subject areas to the fellow State minister is said to be Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
