Sri Lanka on road to election blacklist

Sri Lanka on road to election blacklist Featured

The Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE) has rejected a charge made by the new Sri Lanka Freedom Party secretary Anura Priyadharshana Yapa that it is biased towards the Opposition.

The rejection was made by CaFFE's executive director Ranjith Keerthi Tennekoon following an inquiry made by SriLankaMirror.

He said that in no way are his election monitors biased towards any political party.
Tennekoon further said that the government had rejected a move to enlist European Union monitors for the election which has now fallen on the shoulders of locals.

He warned that if the present trend continues Sri Lanka can end up as the eighth country in the world to conduct elections without independent election monitors.

"We spoke out against "Jungi" cut-outs, against the use of state media for biased election coverage, against election violence and for the arrest of those who break the law. But they blame us", said Tennekoon.
