Minister of Science and Technology - Susil Premajayantha says that they hope to generate 200 Mega Watts of solar power energy in Sri Lanka within the next three years.

Speaking at a media briefing at the ministry yesterday (05), the minister said that they hoped to produce highly effective solar power panels for this purpose.

He said that this will enable to provide solar power for low-income rural area families at a cost effective price.

He said that solar power will be supplied to several industries including the garment and tea industry.

He added that the street lamps in the area around the Parliament complex will be powered by solar power and in the next phase, street lamps of 335 Local Government areas will be lit in a similar manner.
