The amendments made to Value Added Tax (VAT) had increased call charges.

At a media briefing held at the Finance Ministry, Minister Ravi Katunayake said the VAT rate has been increased from 11 percent to 15 percent from May 02.

Speaking to 'Divaina', minister Harin has said that concessionary packages, including data packages and new technology, will be introduced in the future so that the burden the people will have to bear will be reduced.

"We will introduce concessionary data packages through which call charges could be reduced, he said.
