"The assistant secretary of the JHU Udaya Gammanpila has left the party citing the policies of the party as reasons for leaving.
Our policies are democratic and well accepted by the people of this country. The core of our policy is the abolishing of the executive Presidency, the establishment of Independent Commissions, the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption. It was Udaya Gammanpila who also said at our Convention held on October 19 that all this has to be changed and Parliament made to account for everything that takes place.
All our proposals put forward to the government in 2005 and 2010 did not produce the desired results and that is why we decided to support the Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Sirisena. We are confident that we will be able to accomplish what we have stood for,", the statement said.
