SLFP rules out even discussing federalism Featured

The SLFP says it opposes the proposal adopted by the northern provincial council for the merger of the northern and eastern provinces and the establishment of a federal system of governance.

At a media briefing today (25), minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said the SLFP was against the formation of a federal system of governance in the country, and was not prepared even to discuss federatism.

Federalism will lead to the instability of the socio-political stability that has been won, and will give slogans to the extremist only.

The SLFP will agree to discuss powers given to the provincial councils through the 13th amendment, said Samarasinghe.
