Fisheries secretary to visit Brussels to apologise

Fisheries ministry secretary - Mangalika Adhikari is to leave for the EU tonight (24) to apologise over a flawed media release published by the ministry over the EU fisheries ban.

The media release had stated that the ban imposed on Sri Lanka was lifted on May 21 last year.

European authorities had complained on this regard to the Prime minister’s office and accordingly, Ms. Adhikari will be on her way to Brussels to tender an apology, ’Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns.

Although a recent press release of the European Commission had announced that the ban on Sri Lanka was lifted, the decision is to be tabled before the EU Council of Ministers before being passed in the European parliament, a spokesperson from the Prime minister’s office told ’Sri Lanka Mirror’.
