For the alms giving at his home on the morning of April 17, he had obtained 300 plates of food from the hotel.
Each plate was worth Rs. 3,500, but he had paid only Rs. 350,000 in total, at the rate of Rs. 1,166 per plate.
Also, transport costs had not been paid by him, whereas Waters Edge normally charges around Rs. 25,000 for the transportation of food, say the sources.
The hotel staff had followed an order by de Silva to supply the food.
A director of the hotel is entitled to a discount of only 25 per cent.
The hotel is managed by Waters Edge Ltd, which comes under Patali Champika Ranawaka’s megapolis and western development ministry.
