Salvinia ruins Parakrama Samudra

Salvinia ruins Parakrama Samudra Featured

Fast-spreading salvinia has covered a vast area of Parakrama Samudra more than ever before, farmers, fisher-folk and residents of the area say.

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', they said authorities have only promised to use a salvinia-eating beetle.

When contacted, irrigation engineers in Polonnaruwa said the particular beetle has already been used.

One part of the reservoir is completely covered with salvinia.
