Sarath, Kaushalya win top awards Featured

The Hiru Golden Film Awards 2016 successfully concluded at Nelum Pokuna theatre last night (11) with the participation of leading local and foreign actors including several Bollywood superstars.

The award ceremony presented awards to 40 films screened in 2014 and 2015 as well as several creations selected from 100 short films during the same period.

While Prasanna Withanage won the award as the best film director for “Oba Netuwa Oba Ekka”, “Hogana Pokuna” won the award for the best film.

Sarath Kotalawala of the film “Thanhaa – Rathi – Ragaa” won the award as the year’s best actor.

Kaushalya Fernando of the “Boradiya Pokuna” won the award as the best actress.

Jackson Anthony won the Jury’s award of excellence for the film “Maharaja Gemunu” While Hemal Ranasinghe who acted in the film “Pravegaya” bagged the award as the Most Popular Actor, Udari Perera who acted in the
same film won the award as the Most Popular Actress.

Thrishakya Kumaratunga who acted in the film “Hogana Pokuna” won the award as the “Most Popular Child Actor.

Mahendra Perera of the film “Address Na” won the award as the best supporting actor and Kusum Renu of the film “Maharaja Gemunu” won the award as the best supporting actress.

While Prasanna Withanage of the film “Oba natuwa oba ekka” won the award for the best scripting, Channa Deshapriya of the film “Address Na” won the award as the best camera director.

Tissa Suendra of the film “Ho Gana Pokuna” won the award for the best editing.

Veteran Theatrical artiste Ravindra Randeniya was this time honoured with the Hiru Once-in-a-lifetime award.

D. B. Nihalsinghe was honoured with the top Golden Award.
