CWE workers are also surprised over the appointment of Sunil Lakmanasinghe as their general manager, who was in the same position when the institution was closed down during the 2002-04 period.
In addition to the restructuring of the CWE, GPMG has also been handed over the task of auditing the overall losses in 2013-14 and the loss due to the purchase of local potatoes and big onions and the importation of rice from India during the same period.
Bathiudeen told the media at the finance ministry yesterday (24) that the government would grant Rs. 75,000 million on July 07 to revive the CWE.
However, CWE workers said this was only an attempt to cover up the inabilities of the minister and their chairman, as the government was due to be dissolved soon.
The minister also said the CWE has to pay Rs. three billion to suppliers and Rs. 1,000 million to banks.
According to reports reaching SLM, KPNG reports say the CWE incurred a loss of Rs. 4,500 million in 2013-14.
