World's most religious country

World's most religious country

The most and least religious nations on the planet have been revealed - and Thailand has proved itself the most faithful nation on Earth.

An overwhelming 94 per cent of people in the nation - which is mostly Buddhist - said that they have a faith.

Close behind were the citizens of Armenia and Georgia - both predominantly Christian nations - and the Muslim states of Bangladesh and Morocco.

In all four countries, 93 per cent of people described themselves as religious.
The findings emerged from a WIN/Gallup International survey, which polled 65 countries on their attitudes towards religion.

In each country, 1,000 people were given the opportunity to say they were 'religious', 'not religious', a 'committed atheist', or to say they didn't know.

Only 30 per cent of British people described themselves as religious, while in Sweden more than three quarters said they were either not religious or atheist.

The most godless country on the planet turned out to be China, where 61 per cent called themselves committed atheists.

Overall, 63 per cent of people worldwide said that they had a religion.
