Thilanga to insert new clause after Mahela’s move! Featured

Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala is to insert a new clause to agreements with players that they should not serve as a coach or adviser to another country for two years after the expiration of the contracts.

This decision has been prompted by Mahela Jayawardena’s joining England’s T-20 team as a consultant, critics say.

Thilanga has criticized Mahela’s move.

Responding, Mahela said, “England didn’t hire me to give information on the Sri Lankan team.”

The 38-year-old argued that his ten-day assignment with England is aimed at helping England batsmen improve their techniques in subcontinent conditions and not toward providing any specific tactical information about Sri Lanka.

Sumathipala has told the media that signing contracts with the national players would be changed after the T-20 world cup.

Increasing the number of contracted players is under consideration, he said.
