Arjuna may bid for top post in SLC

Arjuna may bid for top post in SLC Featured

Arjuna Ranatunga, who is set to keep the ministry of ports and shipping when the portfolios are announced on Friday, is likely to make a bid for the chairman's position in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Ranatunga is, of course, a former chairman of SLC. His first innings was cut short, in 2008-09, largely because he'd stepped on too many toes.

"I've been approached by quite a few former players and I'll probably be a candidate when elections are next held in SLC," Ranatunga told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

Ranatunga's priority, assuming he's back as SLC chairman?

"Set things right... Ensure there's no corruption. When the country's President (Maithripala Sirisena) and the Prime Minister (Ranil Wickremesinghe) are firm on stamping out corruption, their message is bound to be taken on board by everybody," Ranatunga said.

Meanwhile, Sidath Wettimuny, chairman of the interim committee currently managing SLC, has no intentions of offering himself as a candidate.

Speaking exclusively, Wettimuny maintained: "I was invited to head this interim committee. I'm not one for elections. Not my cup of tea."
