He emphasized that all decisions when conducting meets are to be taken by the former officials of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Associations.
Contrary to the warning of FINA (the international governing body of swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming), Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Associations continues to carry out their work under the newly formed committee. This situation will lead to records registered by swimmers at local meets not being recognized by FINA.
The local swimmers also will be barred from taking part in international meets under such conditions.
Speaking to Ceylon Today, newly appointed President Captain Jayantha Gamage said, when Sri Lanka or SL Swimmers participate in international tournaments, they must take part under FINA rules and its flag.
FINA will not recognize our present elected officials, but according to Gamage this situation will get sorted out within a few days. "Although according to Sri Lanka's sports law, national meet organizing rights were with our association, we respect the laws set out by the world body at all times" he said.
Gamage went on to explain that in August 2015 the 5th World Junior Championships will take place in Singapore. "Eight juniors from Sri Lanka will be sent for the championships. In order to get these swimmers across we have already negotiated with the former committee that is recognized by FINA."
"We are waiting for a positive result from FINA coming out of these talks. The old committee will undertake the cushioning of the FINA effects to get swimmers to Singapore."
FINA suspended the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union from 17 June 2015.
