A former Sports editor of the 'Lakbima' newspaper and prominent columnist, Paranavithana is also a much respected cricket analyst.

He was also the childhood coach of many prominent national cricketers, from Dulip Liyanage to Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Out of his 35-year long spell as a cricket coach, 20 years were dedicated to school cricket.

He has also functioned as a manager of Sports Club teams.

The Junior Selection committee, chaired by Ranjith Madhurasinghe, also includes Gamini Wickramasinghe, NIlantha Rathnayake, Dilshan de Silva. In additions, committee members - Keerthi Guneratne represents the School Cricket Association while N. Nishanthan covers the Jaffna area.
