Former spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has agreed to provide his services to the national team, said cricket interim committee chairman Sidath Wettimuny.

Further discussions will be held with him regarding his role for the team, said Wettimuny.

Muralitharan turns 44 on April 17.

He took 800 Test wickets in 133 matches and 534 wickets in 350 ODIs.

Former captain Mahela Jayawardena too, has already been named a consultant to Sri Lanka Cricket.
