The Sports Act will be amended and gazetted by September, says sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.

He was commenting to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' about a possible loss of IOC membership.

Jayasekara said the agreement was reached at a meeting he had yesterday (17) with NOC chief Hemasiri Fernando, deputy solicitor general Sumathi Dharmawardena and other officials.

He said he twice raised this matter with IOC officials while in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He accused his predecessors in the past 10 years of not having fulfilled their promises to the NOC to resolve issues in the Sports Act.

It was in 2006 that Sri Lanka has been told to amend the Sports Act and meet the IOC requirements.

However, C.B. Ratnayake, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Navin Dissanayake all failed to resolve the matter, he added.
