Lovely game where all are equal!

Cricket is a very popular sport which is deeply loved by many. With its popularity, cricket has become a commercially valuable sport. In some countries, the game of cricket and cricketers are treated like gods. Anyway, cricket is a sport that can be entertaining for all ages alike.

Cricket has its roots in England, where playing cricket began way back in the 13th century. Early cricket was at some time or another described as "a club striking a ball (like) the ancient games of club-ball, stool-ball, trap-ball, stob-ball." Originally played among the rural-folk, it came to be popular among the nobility between the 16th and the 18th centuries. The Humbledon Club was founded in 1730 and it became game's greatest club and its focal point. The first written “laws of cricket” were established in 1744. The scorers too, came to the scene and by the end of the 18th century, cricket was the national sport of England.

Under the British empire, cricket spread to its colonies such as Australia, the Indian subcontinent, West Indies and South Africa. The first international game was played in the mid 19th century.

Sri Lanka played her first international match in 1926-27, and went on to gain Test status in 1981, becoming the eighth nation to play cricket at that level. Sri Lanka became the 1996 world cup winners, and are boasting of having set most of the cricketing records today.

Cricket has no age, race, cast differences, with players from various countries having various religious faiths playing together in the same ground. It has become a game beloved by many today.
