A book lover's haven

A book lover's haven

An avid reader? Say hello to a booklovers dream.

D.R. Wijewarden Mawatha in Gamini Hall, Maradana is a long standing favourite haunt for book lovers.

Be it novels, old books, biographies, language, old rare pieces that are out of publication, the place is a treasure trove unveiling unexpected delights for book lovers in its dusty nooks and crannies, at extremely affordable prices.

The book sales were initially started in 1953 by Premadasa Weeraratna, who became physically challenged while serving in the Royal Navy back then.

Although the book sale was initially launched on a small scale in front of the Maradana Railway station, it was later relocated to D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha with the Non-Aligned Summit in Colombo Sri Lanka in 1976.

Today, around seven such shops remain.

Next time you are around the area, be sure to go around as it is definitely worth a visit.
