Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says his just-concluded visit to Beijing for talks to build a joint development programme with China within the next few decades has been a success.

In addition, political and economic issues with regional implications also came under discussion during the tour, he has told journalists.

Sri Lanka has agreed to contribute to China’s one belt and one road (Silk Road) programmes and combine Sri Lanka’s development efforts together with those programmes.

The PM also said the port city project was not a threat to anyone, and that it would fulfill business objectives.

Any doubts with regard to Sino-Lanka relations would be negated by the joint declaration made at the conclusion of his visit that highlights bilateral cooperation in all spheres, he said.

Commenting on peace in the Indian Ocean region, Wickremesinghe said Sri Lanka stressed no room for breach of peace or harm to SAARC countries.
