The 'Lanka C News' website, under the purview of the NFF leader - Wimal Weerawansa reports that it was decided during a recent meeting chaired by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to support constitutional amendments seeking to abolish Executive Presidency and to establish a new Electoral system.
According to the present situation, it will be possible to abolish Executive Presidency with the 2/3 majority in parliament even though the SLFPers in the government refuse to back the move.
However, the joint opposition is to declare their decision on a new constitutional amendment after studying the relevant Bill.
Abolishing Executive Presidency was a pledge made by Maithripala Sirisena when coming to power and it is believed that all UNP, TNA and JVP MPs as well as SLFPers will back the move.
