'Widuli Vasana' to light up the country

Ministry of Power and Energy has taken measures to reduce excess electricity consumption by implementing energy conservation programmes.

As the first step Power Ministry has taken steps to conduct 'Widuli Vasana' (Electricity Fortune) competition in order to avoid power shortages, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said while addressing a media conference held at the Government Information Department yesterday (March 29).

According to the Minister, the competition on energy conservation for all domestic electricity consumers will commence from the month of April 2016.

In this competition, the domestic consumers are required to reduce their energy consumption by at least 10% from the consumption in month of March 2016. Domestic electricity consumers, who are willing to participate in this competition, are first required to get registered themselves. A raffle draw will be conducted to select 6,000 winners from those registered consumers, who will become eligible for the draw through reducing their energy consumption (kWh / Units) by at least 10%.

A monetary credit, equivalent to the winning consumers' electricity consumption for the month of April 2016, will be made available to first 1,000 winners, and a similar credit, equivalent to half of consumer's electricity consumption in the month of April 2016, will be available to next 5,000 winners.

This competition will be continued for the months of May and June 2016 as well

Procedure of the competition
1. Domestic electricity consumers, who are willing to participate in this competition, should register themselves with CEB by sending a SMS to 1987 as follows:

L<space>(10-digit ELECTRICITY A/C No. of the Consumer) and SEND to 1987

2. The consumer, who sends the SMS as above, will receive a confirmation via SMS "You are registered for the competition Energy Conservation"

3.April 2016 and March 2016 of electricity consumption (kWh / Units) of such registered domestic consumers are compared on a common base of 30 days.

4.Select the eligible consumers for the raffle. draw, who have reduced their electricity consumption by 20%. draw the raffle among those qualified. The first 1,000 domestic consumers will be drawn as the winners. for a credit equivalent to the consumer's total electricity consumption in the month of April 2016.

5. Select the eligible consumers for. the raffle draw, who have reduced their electricity consumption by at least 10%. draw the raffle among those qualified. The next 5,000 domestic consumers will be drawn as the winners for a credit equivalent to 50% of the consumer's electricity consumption in the month of April 2016.

6. The competition will be repeat~ in the months May and June of 2016.

7. Comparison will be made between electricity consumption (kWh / Units) of month of May 2016 and month of March 2016 for the May competition.

8. Comparison will be made between electricity consumption (kWh / Units) of month of June 2016 and month of March 2016 for the June competition.

9. The credit for the winners will be made to their electricity accounts.

10. No consumer will be eligible to win more than once.

11. The employees of CEB are not eligible to participate in this Competition.
