Kegalle Magistrate Prasanna Alvis provided politburo member of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), Kumar Gunaratnam, with an opportunity of making a special statement as he was presented before the court today (24).

Making the statement he stated that he joined the JVP while he was studying at the Peradeniya university and had distanced himself from the party in 2011.

He added that he even faced death threats after establishing the FSP and that he had gone overseas because of this.

When Guneratnam said that he had even requested for citizenship several times while he was abroad, the judiciary said it was an issue that needed to be solved with the political authorities.

Gunaratnam further said that he was been detained to hamper his political journey.
