This is in view of remarks by several persons in recent days that his death was the result of a conspiracy, a top police official said.

At a media briefing yesterday, Uduwe Dhammaloka, Muruttettuwe Ananda and Elle Gunawansa Thera said they were in the possession of information to point that Sobhitha Thera was murdered.

The National Movement for a Just Society too, has written to the president, prime minister and the IGP to investigate the death.

The police official said the assistance of Dhammaloka Thera and several others would be obtained in the investigation.

Speaking to the media yesterday, convener of the Movement Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya charged certain monks wanting to evade the law were alleging it was a killing.

None of them had spoken about it being a murder, or had called for a halt to Sobhitha Thera’s cremation, he added.
