Thajudeen killers still at large

Thajudeen killers still at large Featured

The CID is under severe criticism by the political authority for its failure to arrest a single suspect in the murder of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen although nearly one month has passed since Colombo magistrate Nishantha Peiris issued an order on February 25 for the arrest of the suspects, reports say.

When inquired, a top police official said the CID had to start the investigation again as the previous senior investigators had concealed evidence and misled courts.

The past month was spent gathering the evidence once again, he said, adding a key suspect would be taken into custody soon.

Thajudeen was murdered on 17 May 2012 and his body was put inside his car and set on fire, after which the vehicle was made to crash into the wall of Shalika ground at Narahenpita to show it was an accident.

For four years, courts were supplied with false information to surmise that it was an accident, but the investigation was started again in 2015.

The CID has information of the persons who had abducted and killed Thajudeen, as well as those who had covered up the incident, delayed reports etc.
