The CID has taken custody of 13 baby elephants that are were being kept in violation of the wildlife and fauna and flora acts.

It had submitted to courts the details of 15 baby jumbos being kept illegally, but arrested only 13 of them.

Arrest of the remaining two has been prevented with the mediation of a VVIP in the government.

These baby jumbos are being kept at Gangarama temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo and Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devale.
