The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) plans to take disciplinary action against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and 36 other parliamentarians who attended the Joint Opposition’s ‘Jana Satana’ rally on Thursday (17), sources said.

SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake has told that it is illegal for the SLFP MPs to attend the rally held in Hyde Park without the permission of the party.
He said they have challenged decisions taken by the Central Committee and after studying the accurate information with regard to the incident legal action will be taken according to the party constitution.

Anti-UNP rally

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' regarding the particular situation SLFP MP Dullas Alahapperuma stated that the rally on 17th was not held against the SLFP or the incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena.

He stated that it was held against the United National Party (UNP) and its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and none of the SLFP MPs made statements against the SLFP or its leader.

The rally saw the participation of 37 SLFP parliamentarians, 03 out of 05 senior vice presidents, 04 out of 08 vice presidents, said MP Alahapperuma , adding that 284 out of 417 provincial councillors and 1484 out of 2611 local government members also participated in the rally.

Therefore disciplinary action will have to be taken against all of them and expel from the party, he said.

Despite the opinions of the authorities President , who is a mature politician, will not take measures to take disciplinary action against the SLFP MPs who held a rally against UNP, he added.
