The court was considering a petition filed by a woman of Kuliyapitiya, whose child was denied a school, due to a false fear that he was HIV positive.

The state counsel told the SC that since steps have been taken to admit the child to Trinity College, Kandy, there was no need to hear the petition any further.

Issuing the order, the chief justice said the government was bound by the constitution to guarantee education for all children.

The boy’s mother said she was happy with the court order, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
