A SriLankan Airline hostess attached to the presidential secretariat during the Rajapaksa regime had been paid Rs. 1.5 million as an flying allowance, which she is not entitled to, reports say.

The presidential commission of investigation has found that she had received the allowance for three years.

An air hostess can receive this allowance if she serves in-flight services only.

The payments had been made on a letter by former secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga.

The then CEO Manoj Gunawardena had paid her half, not the full allowance.

The air hostess had been enrolled to the Presidential Secretariat due to the insistence of a member of a VVIP family, with whom she had been very close.

After the 2015 presidential election, she was removed from the Presidential Secretariat, and is presently a supervisor of air hostesses at SriLankan Airlines.
