Speaking at a meeting in Kandy today (03), he had asked what was wrong to give a letter in support of a person who had worked for the UNP after considering the individual's credentials.
Kiriella was responding to a journalist's question.
He also said that although he can sometimes be tough when expressing himself, he had no issues with journalists.
Recently, Kiriella was criticised by NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa who said the former had used derogatory language against a journalist.
"I wish to tell Mr. Weerawansa that we have not murdered journalists nor abducted them in white vans. Those who had backed these are talking of media freedom today.
