In a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (01), the LJFS announced the 'Japanese week' which will hold a host of events to mark the 60th anniversary.
Many distinguished guests including 1st Secretary of the Japanese embassy in Sri Lanka - Mr. Masaki Takaoka, President of the LJFS - Mr. Sumana D. Liyanage, Vice Patrons - Mrs. Lalitha Rajapaksa and Mr. Daya Weththasinghe, LJFS General secretary - Mr. Chandra Liyanage, JSA representative - Dr. P.H.P. de Silva and Project chair - Dr. Sujeewa Suriyaarachchi attended the event.
The events announced for the anniversary are as follows :
March 11
A get-together and dinner at the Grand Ball Room of the Hotel Galadari Colombo for members and guests. Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka - H.E. Kenichi Suganuma will grace the event as chief guest accompanied by madam Suganuma.
The screening of documentary highlighting the past activities of the LJFS.
Granting of scholarships to study Japanese language for needy students.
Publication of a souvenir to mark the 60th anniversary and the launch of the revised membership directory
March 13th
Conducting a memorial service at Gangaramaya Temple Colombo 02 to commemorate victims of the 2011 tsunami that devastated Japan.
March 16
Conducting a Health Camp at the Sedawatte Purana Viharaya.
