With effect from yesterday (29), Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe, a close friend of health minister Rajitha Senaratne, has been appointed to the position.
Previously, the authority on medical supplies was director of medical supplies at the ministry, in which position Dr. Lal Panapitiya will continue to function.
However, the new position is above him.
Earlier, the president foiled an attempt by the health minister to make changes to top officials at the National Drug Regulatory Authority.
Senaratne had tried to replace chairman Prof. Lal Jayakody with Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage and CEO Prof. Krishantha Weerasuriya with Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe.
