Rat population in Colombo city has increased considerably, exposing the public to a higher risk of diseases being spread by rats.

Following this revelation in a Colombo municipal council study, steps have been taken to contain rats in the area, said chief medical officer Ruwan Wijayamuni.

The highest presence of rats is reported from Fort, Borella and Maradana.

Advice to contain rats can be obtained free of charge via telephone no. 0112 593550, said Dr. Wijayamuni.
