Palatial house to cost DIG the IGP position?

Palatial house to cost DIG the IGP position? Featured

A senior DIG hoping to become the next IGP is unlikely to achieve his objective as information has come to light about a palatial house worth many millions of rupees he is building, police sources say.

This house is located at Thembiligasmulla Road, 100 metres further towards Kandy from Kiribathgoda town.

It is being built on a plot of reclaimed marshy land of around 100 perches, worth around Rs. 500,000 per perch.

The senior policeman had bought the land about four years ago from one Gunaratne.

Incumbent IGP N.K. Illangakoon is due to retire on April 12.

If he is not given an extension, the president will appoint a successor on recommendation by the Constitutional Council.

In line for the position are senior DIGs Gamini Nawaratne, S.M. Wickremasinghe, Pujitha Jayasundara and C.D. Wickremaratne.
