He told parliament yesterday (24) that garbage was piling up there at a rate of 300 tons a day.
Due to this garbage dump, underground water sources in the area have been polluted, with 150 drinking wells closed down, he said.
He asked that dumping garbage there be halted.
Responding, megapolis deputy minister Lasantha Alagiyawanne said one ministry only could not deal with that.
MP S.M. Marikkar said megalipos development was pointless without removing the garbage dump or addressing the floodwater issue in the area.
