Don't use Pope's image for election propaganda says Sri Lanka Cardinal Featured

Head of the Catholic church in Sri Lanka Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith Perera has requested and appealed to all political parties to refrain from using the image of Pope Francis on election posters.
Currently posters of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and several ruling party politicians with the Pope have been strung up in areas where Catholics are in the majority aimed at enticing voters at next month's Presidential election.

"I have to stress once more that the Pope's visit to Sri Lanka should not be tied to the election. There must be a fair election in a civilized way and it does not matter who wins as a result", Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith Perera was quoted by the website Lanka Truth as saying.

Catholics in Sri Lanka have already voiced their displeasure over President Mahinda Rajapaksa and several of his ministers exploiting the impending Pope's visit to Sri Lanka.
