Elephant thieves aided from the top! Featured

Police are under pressure not to arrest Uduwe Dhammaloka and Kolonnawe Sumangala Theras and judge Thilina Gamage, who have been accused of keeping and selling baby elephants in violation of the fauna and flora act, according to police headquarters sources.

As a result, police are unable to arrest and produce before courts the other suspects in elephant trafficking too.

Dhammaloka Thera has made submissions to court that the baby jumbo he was keeping was found by him abandoned near Allen Methiniyarama temple.

Sumangala Thera has sold eight baby elephants under the names of several persons, but the CID has ascertained that he had been the seller.

Gamage’s baby elephant reportedly has no original owner.

Investigations into elephant trafficking has been completed, in which information has come to light that 16 baby elephants were being kept illegally.
