He said that the statement of MP Mahinrda Rajapaksa with regard to the statement of UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Al-Husain, cannot be considered as a truthful or an honest statement
"Mahinda Rajapaksa speaks on the 1815 Rebellion. He should understand that Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe's regime was toppled due to family bandyism, corruption and poor practice of law and order.
The same situation was experienced in 2015. Then one can think that history repeats itself after 200 years," he said.
Amunugama said that 33 cases will be filed against corruption and financial irregularities in due course by various institutions after completing the preliminary investigation.
The minister was addressing media at the Information Department in Colombo yesterday.
Under the good governance government there is no room for corruption and monetary malpractices. Several independent institutions have been set up to fight against corruptions and violations of financial regulations. Moves will be taken to file cases against 33 such corrupt practices in due course by these institutions.
He added that there should be a charge sheet and the Attorney General's approval to file a case.
When the minister was asked whether a new political party will be formed under the leadership of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said that he does not think that Mahinda Rajapaksa, who has been a Sri Lankan Freedom Party (SLFP) member since inception of his political career, will give the leadership to divide the SLFP.
