Colombo District court judge Amali Ranaweera today (29) ordered the IGP to pay Rs. 50,000 compensation for a commuter who was assaulted by police in 2014.
The commuter, Duminda Hapuarachchi was assaulted during a protest at the Fort Railway Station in 2014. He was subsequently treated at the Colombo National Hospital for head injuries.
Hapuarachchi's complaint was filed against the IGP and the Attorney General.
