Siyambalapitiya said he has instructed the unit to enforce the law strictly against electricity theft, as he intended to make the CEB a profit-earning state institution.
The confidentiality of the informants will be maintained, said the minister.
Following raids last year, 2,704 persons were prosecuted for electricity theft and fines amounting Rs. 170 million collected, he said.
He added that the target of connecting every household to the national grid would be completed by April 31.
