The flags were raised in front of the Vavuniya Urban Council by a group including the relatives of the those disappeared in Vavuniya.

Noting that solutions are yet to be given for problems faced by Northern civilians, the protestors say that there is no point in celebrating independence without looking into the issue of the disappeared.

They have also declared that an international probe on this regard is mandatory.

They have also voiced their protest against TNA MP - M. Sumanthiran, citing that the latter too, has backed the government.
