TNL owner ridicules Liyanage’s call

Senior journalist Shan Wickremesinghe has responded to a remark by Labour Party leader A.S.P. Liyanage over a revelation made by his TNL television.

TNL’s ‘Rata Yana Atha’ programme has revealed the now sand-filled swimming pool at Peacock Palace owned by Liyanage had cash packed in polythene bags hidden in it.

Liyanage, also ex-ambassador to Nigeria, has asked police to intervene and remove the sand from the swimming pool and find out the truth.

At a media briefing yesterday (21), he asked the president and the IGP to intervene and free himself from the life-affecting problem.

It is alleged the cached money belongs to former president Mahinda Rajapaska.

The TNL owner said in response that Liyanage has had enough time to take away the hidden money.

It is pointless to close the stable door once the horse has bolted, said Wickremesinghe, adding that three lorry-loads of money brought from the Central Bank for Rajapaksa’s presidential election campaign were still unaccounted for.

At the media briefing, Liyanage claimed he filled the swimming pool with sand due to advice by astrologers that it would give certain power to Peacock Palace.

Once checked by police, it will be filled with sand once again, he added.
