The owner of a leading local advertising firm, Weerakkody is in the UNP’s national list, and was in charge of the party’s propaganda mechanism during recent elections.
The UNP communication unit chief Krishantha Cooray too, has been proposed, while former state minister Rosie Senanayake too, is a contender.
The appointment will be made once party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and chairman Malik Samarawickrama return from their visit to Switzerland, said UNP general secretary Kabir Hashim.
