Sixty eight new students have no classroom, tables or chairs, and over their head, they only had a 20 X 20 tent provided by a well-wisher, M.G. Senanayake.
The school has 341 students and a 13-member teaching staff.
Principal Rohitha Kamal Dharmasena, who is suffering from dengue, spoke to us over the phone from his bed at a Colombo hospital.
He said that he had been faced with a difficulty as to where the new students be stationed, as parents insisted the new class should start on schedule.
This is despite a promise by authorities to finish construction of a building for the school by December 2015, which has now been promised to be built by February.
Zonal education director Prasad Jayawardena said the Air Force would undertake the construction work.
A parent, A.G. Priyangani questioned as to how long the children should remain inside the tent.
She accused politicians of having double-standards when serving the public.
