A room had been booked
It later transpired that fearing arrest, he had already booked a room at the hospital.
By 10.30 pm yesterday, the CID could not obtain a statement from him, and is keeping guard there.
Hearing is today
The CID informed Colombo additional magistrate Nishantha Peiris on December 07 that the baby jumbo taken into the custody by wildlife authorities at Allen Mathiniyaramaya at Polhengoda had not been registered to the name of Dhammaloka Thera or the temple.
An investigation is underway to find out as to how the baby jumbo had come to be at the temple, and in the meantime, it has been sent to the orphanage at Pinnawala.
The case will be taken up again today.
