The Army commander has recommended five major generals from whom his chief of staff is to be appointed.

They are Milinda Peiris, Sumedha Perera, Janaka Ratnayake, Channa Gunatilake and Sumith Manawadu.

The president will consider these nominees and make the appointment.

The position fell vacant following the retirement of Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias on December 24.
