CaFFE executive Director - Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon said thus at a media briefing in Chilaw today (11).
He added that although the present government was deemed as a government with Good Governance and transparency, the conduct with regard to LGs is a blatant violation of Local Government laws.
"This is wrong. The President and the Prime minister does not understand. The public is criticising the government because the basic work in villages and cities are not being done," he added.
"The most number of complaints on bribery come from LG bodies. Bribes are required even to pass a plan. The public used to get this done from the local politicians irrespective of parties. At the present, such illegally appointed commissioners are ruling 300 LG bodies. This is wrong," he further said.
