Angry that the head of communication and public relations at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority had not voted in support of Nishantha Ranatunga at the cricket elections, the Ranatunga brothers have sealed his office and started an internal investigation against him.
A port trade union leader confirmed this to Sri Lanka Mirror, when contacted over reports that the office had remained sealed since yesterday afternoon (05).

SLPA chairman Dhammika Ranatunga had done that on an order by his brother, port minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

The head of communication and PR is senior cricket commentator Nalin Aponso.

An old Nalandian and a head of the Nalanda Media Forum, he has been a longtime member of the Sri Lanka Cricket executive committee.

Aponso is also a vice president of the SLPA sports club and president of the public services cricket association.

Abstained due to pressure
The public services cricket association had decided to support Thilanga Sumathipala, also an old Nalandian, at the SLC election for its president.

However, the Ranatungas had exerted pressure on Aponso to go against his club’s decision and vote for Nishantha, say sources.

However, Aponso abstained at the vote for the post of president on January 03, but voted for Arjuna, who had contested for the position of vice president.

At a post-election media briefing, Sumathipala alleged the Ranatungas had exerted pressure on public officials eligible to vote at the election, and said an investigation would be conducted.
